Recorded in The Hall at AIR Studios and played by percussionist legend Paul Clarvis, it is designed to blend perfectly with all of our Albion, Symphonic and Percussion libraries.
EXPERIMENTAL PERCUSSION After the seminal Spitfire Percussion and many hitting experiments within our Darwin sound banks (found in the Albion range), we now give you a set of progressive percussion, achieved by bowing, rubbing, scraping and scratching various percussion instruments and objects, to add extraordinary, otherworldy textures and colour to your music. Recorded in the majesty of The Hall at AIR Studios, one of the finest scoring stages in the world, we give you a pristine signal path, recorded through an array of vintage microphones via Neve “Montserrat” pre-amps, to a beautifully serviced Studer 2” tape machine and then into digital at 96k via Prism AD converters, coupled with renowned engineer Jake Jackson’s mastery of the room and the mixes.
From glorious cymbals to the everyday polystyrene cup, this is a definitive range of unusual percussion, played by leading percussionist Paul Clarvis, in ways the makers never intended. These sounds are born out of Paul's experience as the go-to percussionist for A-list film composers and artists looking to enhance their scores for contemporary sonic architecture with edge. A wonderful collection of exceptionally unusual percussion noises, Paul has explored each object and instrument with every possible performing style. For example, with the cymbals alone, we offer articulations ranging from Bowed Long, Bowed Short, Serrated Long, Serrated Short, Stick Long, Stick Short, Superball Long, and Superball Short.
With eight microphone positions and three stereo mixes, you can not only mix and blend to fit the application you’re working on, but also automate for dramatic shifts in focus and depth, output assignable for surround and 5.1 use. The definitive range is designed to fit in with Spitfire's entire orchestral canon, including Albion and Symphonic. Designed to lock together sonically with all of our libraries recorded in The Hall at AIR Studios, whether it be timpani from the percussion range, or Hg2O, Grand Piano and Spitfire Harp, they will sound like they are all in the same room. We provide a series of detailed mixing options that allow you to dry the sound up or make it more ambient, whilst preserving the acoustic integrity and perspective of a consistent microphone set up and room configuration. The instruments are all sampled in great detail but designed to be instantly playable, with simple integration into larger arrangements and templates without risk of demanding too much from your system resources.
We have also included a collection of morphed pads and ambiences from the raw organic samples in our Mercury Synth engine to offer instant inspiration and versatility.
